The sanskrit inscription on this #astrolabe —the largest #inourcollection —reads श्रीयंत्रराज ('The glorious astrolabe').
The plate is engraved for 27°—the latitude of Jaipur, India. The observatory—built 1728-34 by Jai Singh II—made it a centre for astrolabe-making.
