Swarnab Banerjee and Rishav Banerjee founded Banergy, a marine robotics manufacturing company, to build an ecosystem of marine robotics in Bengal. Banergy is the only one of its kind from Bengal, manufacturing marine robotics in its factories in Bankura and Balasore in Odisha.
Banergy manufactures remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and unmanned surface vessels (USVs). These are marine robots that have an array of uses in rivers and oceans. The National Institute of Oceanography, Indian Railways, the National Disaster Response Forces, and the Kolkata Police have all been impressed by Banergy and their submarine robotics.

Howrah? How ra?
#IndiaBuild
At one point NYC had ~600,000 manhole covers from foundries in Howrah near Kolkata.
People forget Howrah was once called the Sheffield of India. In the 50s it had ~90 foundries and 100s of engineering units packed into an emerging industrial belt.
West Bengal accounted for ~75% of Indiaโs metal casting output and supplied a meaningful share of global demand in the 40s/50s when most of Asia barely had an industrial base outside Japan.
India had the industrial base early. Then came decades of permit raj economics, labor paralysis, socialism, anti-industry politics and infrastructure decay.
Today China produces *half* of global casting output with ~20k foundries producing ~50+ million tons
While Indian cities like Kolkata and Kanpur which had a serious head start are now nowhere near the scale of Chinese industrial cities that were far behind them just a few decades ago.
That difference compounds across everything:
- steel
- shipbuilding
- electronics
- EVs
- solar
- machine tools
- chemicals
One country scaled factories. The other debated them.
Howrah could have looked more like Shenzhen or Hebei or Liaoning today: Advanced Industrial clusters, ports, steel, heavy engineering, electronics and supply chains feeding the world.

Ever wondered how we turn silicon wafer into chips?
We did @hackerfabindia and are making a student built chip fab.
Come visit us for a lab open day as we demonstrate our systems at IITB on Wednesday 15th April, 2-5pm to learn more.

Running a factory in a Tier 3 city feels like fighting fires every day:
- Hiring is hard
- Manual errors everywhere
- Time keeps slipping
- Turnover is high
Thatโs exactly why weโre going all-in on AI.
I posted about it last week on X.
Got 300+ AI applications.
Most of them looked great on paper.
But we filtered for:
- Real manufacturing experience
- Location
- Cost
- Skin in the game
Thatโs how we found @VedantOps and @yashjgor from AICAN.
They didn't just pitched.
They showed up in factory.
Solved real problems.
And now?
Weโre building in public:
Wins. Fails. Everything.
If youโre an MSME follow along.
This is just the start. ๐

Manufacturing is like a magic trick

Hand mixer trials are going well.
And this may surprise you:
The longer you run the mould, the warmer it gets and shinier it gets.
Thatโs because of the quality of steel used.
We try to make most moulds in India.
But when finish really matters, we go to China.
Why?
Because they can achieve that level of shine.
And we donโt take risks:
โ First, we run a few thousand pieces there
โ Check if everything is working perfectly
โ Fix issues before bringing the mould to India
Yes, it costs more.
But it saves bigger losses later.
Weโve learned this the hard way.
Next step:
Testing โ Drop tests โ Golden samples โ Final production
This is how a good product is actually built.

You have to see this
Everyone stop scrolling: there is a team of undergrads in IIT Bombay building a semiconductor fab.
Their goal is not to build commercially valuable products on day 1, but rather to build a culture of learning, growth, and innovation.
Engineers studying semiconductors don't get to even touch a wafer today until they are doing post-grad work or they join industry.
For a country that wants to be become self-reliant in the critical domain of semis, this is a travesty. We need our students to gain exposure and begin working with real tools and materials as soon as possible.
This is what HackerFab is doing. They built their own light source by repurposing a commercial projector. They made plasma and RF sputters for metal deposition. They sent first years into the Mumbai street markets to procure sheet metal and make their own tube furnace.
In the process, they learned so much about each individual tool and process in the supply chain. They even learned how to navigate the real world of vendors, suppliers, and logistics.
But most crucially - they set a standard. The entire team at HackerFab is full of energy, agency, and ambition. They trust each other to get shit done, and they all push themselves to learn more than they ever thought they could.
In just a few months, they can already produce chips with feature sizes of one micron. I have no doubt they will make better tools, processes, and transistors as they move forward.
The best part of this is that they have already inspired other colleges to take up the journey - they are sharing their learnings and techniques so that students and hobbyists around the country can begin working with semis. I'm sure it won't be long before the ethos and capabilities sparked by HackerFab spring up across the country.
This is they have my utmost respect, and they deserve support from the whole community.
If you ever want to have the most inspiring, white-pilling day - just visit HackerFab at IIT B!
Thank you @aryamman_bhatia, @shaashvats30, @jaibellare, and team @hackerfabindia!

If you want to start manufacturing in India,
you donโt need to start from zero.
We are opening our factory to serious builders.

"Letโs not only ask what our motherland does for us, We must ask what we do for her."
This is more than a flag.
She is our daily reminder of duty and purpose.
We do not work only for ourselves.
We work for our Nation.
Every product we manufacture, every process we improve, every import we replace
is our contribution to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
A stronger, self-reliant India.
Letโs not only ask what our motherland does for us,
We must ask what we do for her.
Jai Hind.

Meet Soan Papdi โ The Easiest Way to Learn FPGA
After months of building, testing, and iteratingโฆ we ( @_streetdogg & I ) created something simple, clean, and actually beginner-friendly.
Just connect, build, and deploy your ideas on real hardware.
Would love your thoughts ๐
this guy vibe coded an AI SURVIVAL APP that works COMPLETELY OFFLINE
the app
> gives you survival advice completely offline
> cites exact pages from manuals stored on the device
> has offline maps so you're never lost
> lets you text people up to 50 miles away with no cell service
it started off as an app but now he's selling physical devices
it's waterproof, under 3 pounds, and strong enough that you can run it over with a car
the app hit 14k users and became the world's #1 rated survival AI which is insane
Finally got access to government API portals (apisetu) and notice boards (custom crawler). Goal is to build agents for India. :)
