The city of Cleveland celebrates its birthday on July 22nd each year. CMA participated in the sesquicentennial parade in 1946 with a float featuring children from Saturday morning art classes and a plaster cast of the Venus de Milo.

On view in our photo gallery is Raja Deen Dayal, who hailed as the 1st great Indian photographer.
CMA's #IngallsLibrary houses a rare photo album of the 1899 famine relief that Dayal documented as the first official photographer to the largest princely state, Nizam of Hyderabad.
Printed silks for womenswear came into vogue in the early 20th century, peaking in the 1930s. Silk manufacturers, including the Swiss firm of Stehli Silks, were leaders in the field. Fourteen examples of these silks are included in CMA collections. 🧵✂👗

Born on this day was photographer, Margaret Bourke White, who began her career in Cleveland.
White was the 1st western photographer to document the Soviet Union & photographed their first 5 Year Plan. Her 1931 Eyes on Russia is included in the rare collection in #IngallsLibrary.

Daumier’s Art Lovers is currently on exhibit. The Ingalls Library houses an extensive collection of auction catalogs from around the world dating from the mid-19th century.
