I've been generously gifted another vintage laptop for the collection. This time a rare Olivetti M211V (1991) laptop.
Boasting an Intel 80C286 processor, running at a dizzying 16MHz, 1MB of RAM a 20MB HDD and a 10.5" VGA screen.

Today’s thrift store rescue, an IBM PS/1 model 2011 and it boots!
It’s missing its front face bezel (I took the top off to inspect) but is in decent shape otherwise
Some may say ‘why?!’ but I say, why not? 😁

Fixed, cleaned, and buttoned back up. This Magnavox MaxStation 286 is a great example of the typical cheap clone offering of the late 80s and early 90s. Just enough to get you going but not much more. Glad to add it to the collection.

Ouf! This Philips BIOS is weak and flacky. With only hard coded HDD types and maxing out at 100MB. DOS and FDISK seemed ok but there would freezes or crashes. EZ-Drive to the rescue with its BIOS overlay

Success! Another revived DS1287. BIOS settings are stored and no errors. Time to put this MaxStation 286 back together and see what we got.

This Magnavox MaxStation 286 was found in a recently sold house. The dust was thick and untouched. The track paper in the printer was yellowed. Sitting there for the last 30 years untouched. Apparently these were designed & assembled in Montreal.

This week was 286 week. With the pickup of this Magnavox branded Maxstation 286 and monitor. And this gloriously chunky Compaq SLT/286 laptop. The 286 generation was something I was missing. But they are harder and harder to find.
