Very often it is the parents who are concerned about chirurgical procedures, contributing in transmitting anxiety to their children. This is why, clown interventions are considered a useful strategy to prevent negative outcomes in children. #IntensiveSmile © Benjamin Breitegger

Besides having a psychological training, the healthcare clown must have excellent command of the entire artistic repertoire of a clown. With #IntensiveSmile they have to work alone using all skills: puppetry, music, magic tricks etc, because they spend hours with the same child.

What is special about the healthcare clowns is that they have one foot in the childhood world, and one foot in the adult world. Thereby, children can feel confident and safe - with adults and with the childish side of the clowns. #IntensiveSmile #RehabilitationProgramme

A very stressful moment for hospitalized children is the preoperative period, when specific symptoms such as nervousness, tension, worry, and fear are very common. #IntensiveSmile 📷Niko Havranek

The induction of anaesthesia can be a frightening, incomprehensible event for children. A relaxed and fearless atmosphere can reduce the use of sedatives, which is healthier for the child and cheaper for the healthcare system. #IntensiveSmile #REDNOSES #healthcareclowns

#Healthcare #clowns are allowed to go further than the parents often can go, becoming the last familiar face the child sees. Doctors prove when patients go into deep anesthesia in a relaxed mood, they will wake up in a relaxed mood, shortening the healing process #IntensiveSmile

When facing difficult treatments, examinations or surgeries, hospitalised children often become extremely anxious and afraid. The presence of our #clowns inspires a calming atmosphere in the moments where the fear is at its highest. #IntensiveSmile
