It's 4am and my next 2 pix are drying overnight. Tomorrow I'll spray them with gloss #varnish, then keep adding matt until they eventually look right.

Tetley's #IsolationCoat has arrived. (Thick glossy layer separating #acrylicpaint from #varnish.) I barely paint anything and yet I got through 5 pots of this stuff last year! 1 litre covers 24sq ft of #acryliconcanvas , that's probably why...!

Difference between matt and gloss varnish... the one on the right is every bit as glossy underneath but the spray on varnish is amazingly effective at changing the l8i7...

After 7+ layers of #isolationcoat the painting is smooth and ready for varnish. But! Ironically I prefer mine varnished matt!

That's why I was so uptight about varnishing. You need it to protect the painting and yet whenever I tried it was brushmark city! Finally I learned to water the #isolationcoat gloop 50-50 and use spray varnish. Perfect coverage, goodbye forever to nasty brushmarks!!

The varnish is so good you literally can't see it's there, which is all I want from #picturevarnish: protection without the gloopy glossy wet look!

It should go totally matt and the brushstrokes (in the paint, not the gloss on top) should almost disappear. They don't tell you this but if you dilute the #isolationcoat 50-50 with water and do 4 coats instead of 2 you get perfect coverage.
ART TIP: It's #isolationcoat time!🖌🦖 I'm applying an isolation coat to my latest painting, to help protect it. If you paint, always add this BEFORE the varnish 😘 This Dino painting will debut at the Animanga Group Show at @havengallery on June 8th. 🙌🖼🦖🦕
