Yesterday, the cryptocurrency market saw heightened optimism. Bitcoin (BTC) briefly approached its all-time high, while Ethereum (ETH) experienced a short pullback after breaking through key resistance. The market is likely to enter a consolidation phase with increased volatility.
From a technical perspective: if ETH breaks above $4,400, the total short liquidation volume on major centralized exchanges (CEXs) is expected to reach $1.495 billion, potentially triggering further upward momentum. Conversely, if ETH falls below $4,200, the total long liquidation volume on major CEXs could reach $335 million, which may intensify short-term downward pressure.
Meanwhile, on the macroeconomic front, positive news emerged — the China-U.S. Stockholm Economic and Trade Talks released a joint statement yesterday, reaching a phased agreement to ease certain tariff measures:
The U.S. side will continue to adjust the implementation of the ad valorem tariffs imposed on Chinese goods (including those from Hong Kong and Macau SARs) as stipulated in Executive Order No. 14257 dated April 2, 2025. Starting from August 12, 2025, the 24% tariff will be suspended again for 90 days, while retaining the remaining 10% tariff.

Market analysts believe this round of tariff easing may help relieve global supply chain and commodity market pressures, providing some support for risk asset sentiment. However, its short-term impact on the crypto market remains to be seen.

Boosted by a strong U.S. market open, ETH rebounded sharply yesterday, reaching a high of $3,735, while BTC also recovered to $115,720.
At the July FOMC meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell's hawkish tone dampened market expectations for a rate cut. He praised the resilience of the labor market, warned of inflationary risks driven by tariffs, and stressed the need to guard against one-off price shocks turning into persistent inflation. Despite mounting political pressure from Trump, Powell stood firm on the Fed's “data-driven” approach and reaffirmed its independence, showing no signs of backing down.
However, Friday's non-farm payroll data sent shockwaves through the market. Only 73,000 jobs were added in July, marking a 9-month low. Even more concerning, May and June figures were revised down by a combined 258,000, leaving the actual net increase at just 33,000 — the weakest since the pandemic began. Recession fears surged, leading to sharp pullbacks across both U.S. equities and the crypto market.
In response, expectations for a September rate cut spiked. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, the probability of a cut in September has soared to 92.1%, up from 63.1% just a week ago. Meanwhile, the White House has launched an open campaign against the Fed: on the same day the data was released, Trump dismissed the Bureau of Labor Statistics chief appointed by the Biden administration and accepted the resignation of Fed Governor Kugler — signaling a clear intent to tighten control ahead of the September FOMC meeting.
