The Second World War came to its official end on September 2, 1945 on the deck of the mighty American battleship USS Missouri, which was docked in Tokyo Bay. At just after 9:00AM Japanese time, Japanese and Allied delegations formally signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, putting an end to hostilities with Allied forces that had raged since December 7, 1941, and an occupation of much of mainland Asia since 1931.
