The Australia Act 1986 ended UK Parliament's power to legislate for Australia and appeals to the Privy Council, confirming full legislative & judicial independence.
It did **not** make the Governor-General obsolete. Australia remains a constitutional monarchy with King Charles III as King of Australia. The GG, appointed on the Australian PM's advice, exercises powers under the Australian Constitution — including dissolving Parliament on the PM's advice. No petition to the King is required or done. The Act removed UK government involvement but kept the GG's role intact.
