From my collection, complete, 1990 Capt. Grid-Iron v.1. Capt. Grid-Iron came with a a green football helmet, a clear visor (that attached to the helmet), two orange elbow pads, a green backpack, a gray missile launcher, four gray missiles (that attached to the missile launcher), a light gray handgun, and three gray football grenades. Capt. Grid-Iron is one of many 90s figures who gets a lot of negative reviews. But I always liked him; growing up, I never had any of the "leader Joes" like General Hawk, Flint, or Sgt. Slaughter and my first Duke figure wasnt until 1992. So Capt. Grid-Iron was my first "leader Joe". Hasbro went a bit overboard with the football theme, unlike previous characters, where they kept the sports motif dialed down. Hasbro said screw it, and went hog wild with Grid-Iron. I actually like that they did, but I admit, the color choice definitely need some work. His gear isn't bad. The missile launcher is a unique design, and the hand gun is ridiculously long reminiscent of Joker revolver in the 89 Batman movie. But in spite of all this, I still think he's a great figure and a good design. I just wish, like many of the new 90s characters, he got more screen time in the comics instead of the Dic. cartoon, which really painted a lot of great characters in a bad light, in my opinion. His only appearance was a silhouette of him in the background of one panel in the original Marvel run. I know many would disagree, but I give 1990 Capt. From my collection, complete, 1989 H.E.A.T. Viper v.1. H.E.A.T. Viper came with a gray bazooka, a gray hose, a gray backpack, six gray bazooka shells, and a black hose. Be honest now. Who thought this was a Flamethrower trooper when they first saw him? I know I'm not the only one. I never had him as a kid, but it wasn't till I added him to the collection that I realized this was a bazooka soldier. I have to say, either way, he looks very cool. The design of his weapon looks like it could be either a Flamethrower or a bazooka, but it does make more sense as some kind of Sci-Fi bazooka. Although, looking at it from a sci-fi perspective, the card art gives off the idea of it being some sort of portable particle beam weapon, which sounds even cooler. However, you see the 1989 H.E.A.T. Viper, Hasbro did a great job with this guy. One of the better figures designs from 1989. Even the bright colors work well with the figure, in my opinion.
