A little late to the #JoinTheCancerConversation, but for your entertainment https://t.co/0OjAxHxGzU and also seriously and for Bowel Cancer UK, "(Yeah, so what you need?) I need an NHS that's got no limit, And a government who ain't ever gonna bin it." #Decembeard #OneCancerVoice
The fully funded part of cancer workforce is key. We have the enthusiasm and energy to train at all levels in #pathology but need to recognise this area is suffering from rationalisation for years #jointhecancerconversation
The next Government simply must train and employ more NHS staff.
To do this, we urgently need to see a fully-funded cancer workforce plan.
New machines and hospitals before that are welcome, but they will achieve nothing without staff to run them.

Lots of interesting comments - main focus on workforce. We will need more doctors - if the UK population is to enjoy outcomes comparable with European neighbours.

Just catching up on the #JoinTheCancerConversation tweetchat yesterday organised by @CRUK_Policy on issues surrounding staff shortages in the NHS. I made a quick summary ICYMI

Thank you to everyone who came to #JoinTheCancerConversation today.
So many different experiences, but so clearly #OneCancerVoice on one thing in particular.
The next Government must confront the NHS shortstaffing crisis as soon as they take office. https://t.co/4ih1qAT87t
Loving reading great answers in @CRUK_Policy’s debate, like a backseat driver after leaving the sector Tuesday
Clear on Q2 funding is integral but not everything: poor planning, scrapping nurse bursary, low retention & accountability lots to answer for #JoinTheCancerConversation
Q2 looks at the causes of staff shortages in the NHS.

Couldn’t agree more @oscdebosc. Doesn’t help when politicians quote ‘doctors & nurses’ in interviews. I wish they would say all healthcare professionals or something similar/better. #AHPs roles need to be promoted & protected @AnthonyNolan @ACPOPC #jointhecancerconversation
This is so important. Workforce planning must include #AHPs with the same consideration as CNSs and Docs. All too often we see these posts marginalised or lost from MDTs. @AnthonyNolan @KarenPhysio @ACPOPC @thecsp @theRCOT #JoinTheCancerConversation
Cancer sucks
Treatment sucks
Diminished health & fitness sucks
Scanxiety sucks
But, living is wonderful
Thank you science and thank you NHS ❤️

@crowe_maggie @CRUK_Policy Exactly the point I was going to make. We need our amazing nurses and student nurses to feel valued and supported to carry out the incredible role that they do AND to attract more people to the profession #GE2019 #NHS #NHSfuture #JoinTheCancerConversation
Phew!Great taking part in @CRUK_Policy debate for @AnthonyNolan #JoinTheCancerConversation arguing for future-proofed NHS workforce. Blog here https://t.co/XPkLLrTuMe explains why it takes a whole stem cell transplantation community to help save lives
A huge thanks to @CRUK_Policy for this morning’s #JoinTheCancerConversation debate on #NHS staff shortages, & RCR officers @HannahT_85 & @DrStephenHarden for their contributions. To improve #cancer detection & care, the next government must increase #NHS staff numbers.
#GE2019
And that’s a wrap!
Thank you for your amazing contributions - we’ll be sending them to the political party Health Leads soon.
Now we’ve had our say, it’s over to you @LucianaBerger @MattHancock @JonAshworth

A friend of mine recently experienced delays to the start of her radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer, which needless to say she found terrifying. There are not enough specialist radiotherapy staff. This issue is not confined to cancer services #JoinTheCancerConversation
Really important points from Georgia at @PancreaticCanUK.
For LSCs for which we have data (lung, pancreatic, stomach oesophageal) only 24% of cancers are diagnosed at stage 1 or 2.
#JoinTheCancerConversation
@CRUK_Policy Given that only 20% of people with #pancreaticcancer are diagnosed early and 7 in 10 people won't receive any treatment, a well trained and sustainable workforce to deliver earlier diagnosis and better and faster treatment and care should be a priority.#JoinTheCancerConversation
Thank you everyone... we are not going to go away or give up are we ?? @CRUK_Policy @bloodwise_uk #GE2019 #JoinTheCancerConversation

Thanks @CRUK_Policy for hosting an important discussion. We need the next Government to act on behalf of all blood cancer patients.@MattHancock @JonAshworth & @lucianaberger, it's over to you.

“A well trained and sustainable workforce to deliver earlier diagnosis and better and faster treatment and care should be a priority for #PancreaticCancer patients” says @georgiapapacle in @CRUK_Policy's conversation on the NHS cancer workforce. #JoinTheCancerConversation

Again this is not good enough for #cancer patients - 11 extra hours which are precious when you are hospitalised away from home for months #JoinTheCancerConversation
@annamam09 @WaldenChris @CRUK_Policy Totally agree - have also experienced care @ DGH from bank staff not signed off to remove IV drips from PICC lines so facing 11 extra hrs hooked up - not life-threatening by any means but not good practice.
While we’re finished for the day, the conversation must not stop here.
We need all parties to produce a long-term, fully-funded workforce plan.
