When it comes to the tridactyl discovery, the moment I began to question a human origin was when I learned that their fingerprints appear as near straight, parallel lines rather than the typical loops, whorls, and arches seen in humans.
That is not a known human characteristic, and reproducing that pattern consistently across multiple fingers and toes on multiple specimens without leaving evidence of manipulation would be extremely difficult to explain.

This is a another well-documented science. It's called desiccation of tissues; mummies in dry environments loose a significant portion of water as they dry; this causes the skin to shrink and pull itself taunt, sometimes smoothing topographic features like bellybuttons. It's been documented in both Egyptian and Peruvian mummies.
