###Kirinya Erupts in Celebration as Promoted Officers Receive New Ranks
Joy and jubilations filled the Jinja Group of Prisons, famously known as Kirinya, as newly promoted Junior Prisons Officers were officially pipped and chevroned in a colourful ceremony that marked the conclusion of the promotion exercise in the South Eastern Region.
The ceremony was led by Mr. Deogracious Ogwapit, Senior Superintendent of Prisons and Regional Prisons Commander (RPC) for the South Eastern Region, who congratulated the officers upon earning their new ranks. The Officers in Charge of Jinja Main Prison, Jinja Women Prison, and Jinja Remand Prison were all duly present to witness and celebrate the achievement of their staff.
Officers from the three prison units stood proudly as supervisors decorated them before fellow staff, friends, and family members. Laughter, applause, and bright smiles covered the parade ground as officers celebrated their achievements. Many could not hide their happiness as they admired their new chevrons and pips, taking photographs and sharing memorable moments with colleagues.
According to the regional promotion list, 174 officers were elevated to different ranks, including 7 Principal Officers I, 4 Principal Officers II, 6 Chief Warders I, 8 Chief Warders II, 21 Chief Warders III, 48 Sergeants, 22 Corporals, and 58 Lance Corporals.
Jinja Main Prison registered the highest number with 44 promoted officers, followed by Jinja Remand Prison with 34 officers and Jinja Women Prison with 15 officers. All officers from the three units were officially decorated during the ceremony.
The Govt wants to shift all civil servants to 5-year performance contracts to cure laziness & tame the wage bill. Could this the end of impunity in public offices, or a recipe for job insecurity and political patronage?
