Q: Look at this picture. What shapes do you see?
A: Circles; Small circles; Cylinders; Squares; Box/cube; If you turn the jars sideways, you'd see a rectangle
What else do you see? What shapes are around you? How might you describe a shape you don't know the name of?#KMathAtHome

a math talk—“Who Am I?”. Using a hundreds chart, the students can count on from any number, explore greater or less than, find patterns, and discuss which character is what number & why. #KMathAtHome

the kindergarten students were engineers today & built different structures with items at home! #KMathAtHome #distancelearning

What can you build from rolled up paper and tape? What shapes do you see? How many sticks? What was easy? What was hard? So fun to finally try this! #MathPlay #KMathAtHome

my kindergarten students explored number partners of 10 today by writing an equation and drawing/saying their own math story. #KMathAtHome #distancelearning

Looked at a growing pattern on Zoom from @mathwithmeMN (How many? What do you notice? What comes next? What comes before?) Ss drew the pattern on paper & what comes next then held it up so everyone could see their thinking. Then Ss created their own patterns at home. #KMathAtHome

math challenge—create your own 3D shape. “tell what shape you made, describe what flat shapes you used, and how you created it.” here are students sharing their work on zoom today! #KMathAtHome #distancelearning

Using what I have at home to engage students in math—a cookie sheet 🤣Students practiced showing teen numbers with double ten frames to build their counting skills. We also played splat (@SteveWyborney ) on zoom today! #KMathAtHome #distancelearning

Creating their own versions of Splat!/how many are hidden? at home #KMathAtHome

We did a @SteveWyborney Esti-mystery over Zoom today & then kids created a version of their own (except their clues led to only one answer as I thought this would be easier on their first try). Gets them thinking about place value, counting, decomposing & comparing! #KMathAtHome

Thinking about different ways to make the same number. Ss each decided how many chickens were in their yard and how they might arrange themselves between the coop and the grass.
How do you know if you've found all the ways?
S (from last pic): "I flip-flopped them".

Spent most of the day writing this. Nervous to post about what I've been doing before the end of the year as I feel everything is still very much a work in progress. Thank you @jennalaib for making me feel like I'm doing something right... 😉 #KMathAtHome https://t.co/fv637KTxA5
We circled back around to counting in pictures during our zoom today - and looked at a student submission. What could they count in this picture? They said 1 crayon box, 64 crayons, count by color, count ALL the drawing utensils together (crayons + markers)...
