Revenue Drivers -
Overall Growth: Total revenue reached ₹946 crores, representing a 40% YoY growth
Core EMS Performance: The core Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) segment was the primary driver, growing 48% (standalone EMS growth was 53% excluding foreign entities)
Segment Performance: Growth was robust across aerospace, defense, railways, and automotive segments
Overseas Growth: Overseas entities (including August Electronics) grew by 327%, contributing ₹102 crores compared to ₹24 crores in the previous year
New Customer Wins: The company onboarded India’s second-largest EV two-wheeler manufacturer and several global brands from Germany and France
Margin Levers
EBITDA Margins: Reported at 15.6%. Management believes a 15.5%–16% range is sustainable despite industry headwinds.
Gross Margin Impact: Gross margins were impacted by 680 basis points, partly due to a 44% increase in employee expenses and rising commodity prices
Pass-Through Mechanism: Kaynes utilizes a "pass-through" model to transfer component price increases to customers; however, there is typically a one-quarter delay in implementing these price adjustments
Working Capital Details
Networking Capital (NWC): NWC days increased to 163 days (on a 12-month rolling basis) from 122 days
Inventory: Increased by ₹177 crores as a strategic decision to hedge against component shortages and rising PCB prices
Receivables: Total receivables rose to ₹1,925 crores. The smart metering segment accounts for 75% of total receivables (₹1,311 crores) despite being only 25-30% of revenue
Cash Flow: Operating cash flow was negative ₹259 crores for the quarter, largely due to the inventory build-up and metering receivables
Overall Growth Guidance
Revenue: Management aims for 35-40% growth, sticking to their goal of doubling the market growth rate
New Units: Combined revenue from OSAT and PCB units is projected at ₹450-500 crores for the full year, with commercial billing starting in Q3
Profitability: Management expects working capital and profitability to normalize by Q3 and Q4, with a goal to turn cash positive by the end of the financial year
Key Points, Risks, and Industry Updates
Smart Metering Strategy: Kaynes is consciously de-growing its smart metering business (which saw a 12% decline this quarter) to protect the balance sheet until receivables are recovered. They are working with bankers to spin off a portion of this business into an SPV by February
Semiconductor & PCB Units: Clean Semicon (OSAT) and Clean Circuit (PCB) units remain on track to be operational by Q3 FY27, though they faced minor logistics slippages due to West Asia tensions
Space Technology: Kaynes is developing a prototype satellite for launch in mid-2027 and is entering titanium gas bottle manufacturing for ISRO and DRDO
Industry Risks: Management warned that FY27 will be challenging due to component shortages (reminiscent of COVID-19 times) and a 3x increase in PCB prices.
Global logistics disruptions also remain a concern.

From a valuation perspective, Kaynes Technology currently presents a profile of high topline growth and stable operating margins, which typically commands a premium multiple in the EMS sector. However, this is currently balanced against balance sheet stress (high debt and receivables) and negative cash flows. A key driver for a valuation re-rating will likely be the successful commissioning of the OSAT/PCB units in Q3 and the successful recovery of receivables or the spin-off of the smart metering business
