The font at #BoytonChurch. Unremarkable looking but apparently dates to 1100 and, like so many of it's ilk, found stashed elsewhere and was restored to the Church at a later date. Sadly #ItsNotLinedUp in the photo. My petard has been self hoisted TTM🐭

If you felt the burning desire to visit my favourite church so far on this scamper at #Knook, park at either #Heytesbury or #UptonLovell and do the corresponding circular walks. There are nice pubs at both places so you could park at one end and do the 'big loop'

Groupings of I with a bar across, W and R appear quite regularly in graffiti in different combinations. @KingJohnsHouse there is a debate. One side says these are just initials, another says some or all of these glyphs have ritual significance invoking, the virgin Mary and Jesus
Goodbye #Knook to me you have the most wonderful little church; St. Margaret's. It's traditional for each leg of my current scamper to start with a steeple and end with a font and this week's no different. Victorian, bulky, wish you had one in keeping with your Norman heritage.

St Margaret of Atioch at Knook, Wilts, has Norman origins although some argue that it' been around since Saxon times. The blocked up south door certainly has a tympanic and capitals that lend themselves to the claim.
