If you're doing a #MedEd #Review/ #KnowledgeSynthesis and you get to the end with the result:
"We only had 5 papers that met our exclusion criteria; the quality of the research is poor; we need more empirical research."
Do you ever just STOP the review, decide NOT to publish your (not-so-helpful) review, and instead move on to doing the needed empirical research?
I suspect not, since we in #academia are incentivized to publish ALL of our hard work, no matter what!
But is this what we SHOULD be doing? I'm not so sure. I guess this may be the difference between what's best for #science vs. what's best for our academic careers.
