Sen. Day notes that #LB388 was already defeated as it was a tax shift. But unable to accept it like a grownup, Gov. Pillen has dragged the #neleg into an unchanged special session favoring a tax shift that will also fail. But pass or fail, it fails Nebraskans.

@kohenari Every once in awhile they get a headline right, though. Pillen picked "taxpayers" over children's justice. Where was that selective concern when supporting #LB1402 or #LB753? #LB574? #LB77? #LB388? Proposed sales tax increase? Favor "taxpayers" always or never, but be consistent

Seems Linehan would rather give up on her precious #LB388 just to get to her more precious #LB1402. The message is she would rather a select few donors receive a big tax rebate for her pet project than provide relief to greater Nebraska.

Despite moving on from #LB388, Von Gillern can't let it go. Predicts property taxes will go up significantly if #LB388 not passed, as though it alone could prevent that. Passed or not, no one really expects property taxes won't increase. Rising valuations remain unaddressed.

Sen. Erdman advises #neleg to not be swayed by the governor or governor's staff to vote for #LB388, the governor claiming he'll work it out in special session, when there's no guarantee he'll have 33 votes as not all 49 senators will be present due to other obligations.

1/ #LB388 Sen. Slama asks for the grain of salt to be passed, please, and is unmoved by Sen. Kauth's fretting over her Millard Junior Leaguers not applying for the 1107 tax credit and the burden of property tax in general, when the tax burden is on rural.

Murman in favor of #LB388 regurgitates a string of the usual catchy but empty platitudes: tax relief- growth- property tax is included in your mortgage- sales tax is discretionary- that no one on the floor seems tired of repeating. Droopy is followed by Eeyore.

Supporters of #LB388 carry on about the groundbreaking move that the property tax credit will not require taxpayer action, but will be done at the front like it should have been originally. Shifting tax relief is not the same as reducing taxes. Overblown pride in #LB388 baffles.

Predictably in line behind VonG in the indignation queue, Sen. Jacobsen favors #LB388. Jacobsen presumes people would be okay raising sales tax if it reduced property tax. I think he presumes wrong. If increasing sales tax is their idea of sustainable relief, where will it end?

Sen. Slama calls it: #LB388 is bad policy and probably unconstitutional. She also exposes the emperor that caps on subdivisions are not tax relief.

@NebraskaMegan has to emphasize how #LB388 hurts small business and hurts small towns, something the big city authors and promoters of these tax increases- particularly on digital advertising- cannot grasp.

Sen. Erdman reveals the expected property tax decrease will be 2% on #LB388. Discredits the mythical "3-legged stool". The only "relief" will be we no longer must actively file for the credit on our state income tax. It's at the front before the property is billed.

Per Sen. Dungan, there are other ways coming that will provide property tax relief (#LB1331, for example) than raising sales tax through #LB388, which will hurt working class Nebraskan, the silver spoon crowds assertion that it won't.

#LB388 Sen. Slama puts it succinctly: a tax cut fueled by tax increase is still a tax increase. Like past promises, we soon lose any progress toward tax cuts. And claiming "I voted for decreasing property tax" for your 2024 mailers is misleading at best. Run in 2026, pay price.
