3 years ago today we got to meet with the then First Minister of Scotland to talk about overdose prevention sites. Along with some dedicated volunteers I parked our van in Glasgow & said to the people struggling with homelessness and drug dependency that they matter. In the midst of Covid, an ongoing political debate if Scotland had the power to start these facilities, during the largest outbreak of HIV that the UK had seen in 30 years and a drug death rate in Scotland that was by far the highest in Europe we banded together and said that this must happen, that these sites not only provide a place where people can be kept alive but also access much need help and support. This year in 2024 Glasgow will open the doors of the first official overdose prevention site in the UK after approval from the Lord Advocate. This is certainly one of the biggest things I have done in my life and I am so thankful for everyone that volunteered, supported and backed the campaign, and all the friends I have made along the way. We all know this on its own is not the answer but many lives will be saved and this is a massive step in the right direction towards supporting people and changing the course of direction. #SupportDontPunish, always 💜
