The Communist Party of Britain expresses its total solidarity with the Communist Party Marxist - Kenya (CPM-K) following the state brutalisation, harassment and detention on Tuesday 24 February of our comrade, General Secretary, Booker Ngesa Omele. The arrest of CPM-K General Secretary on fabricated charges of incitement to violence is a transparent attempt to decapitate the revolutionary leadership of the Kenyan working class. The seizure of Omele’s travel documents as he prepared to journey to China reveals the rank hypocrisy of the repressive, neoliberal Ruto administration. While Ruto travels the world to mortgage Kenyan sovereignty to international creditors, he denies the same right to travel to Kenyans who call for building a real socialist alternative. This is the logic of the neo-colonial state. Borders remain fluid for the exploiters and the comprador bourgeoisie, yet they are prison bars for the liberators. We recognise this repression as part of a global pattern of imperialist oppression. The Kenyan government, acts as a local gendarme for the interests of international capital and the IMF, seeks to crush any movement that challenges the hegemony of the land-grabbers. The charges against comrade Omele are not merely a legal matter: they are a weapon of class war designed to intimidate the democratic opposition and maintain a climate of fear. The CPB calls upon the British labour and progressive movement to demand the release of Comrade Omele, the return of his documents and the cessation of all state intimidation against the CPM-K. We know that the struggle for land, bread, and peace in Nairobi is inextricably linked to the struggle against the same neocolonial capitalist forces here in Britain.
