These current demonstrations aren’t singular. From 2009-2011 demonstrations in summer months took place because of governments inability to deliver power and water especially in south. #LSEIraq

.@ProfTobyDodge corruption is main worry of ordinary Iraqis. The political system put in place - Muhasasa - drives contract fraud. After elections, employment in civil service takes place through party bosses that encourage party political corruption. #LSEIraq

.@aliamoub The opportunity for Iraq is in the fact that the public sector and private sector wage gap isn’t large and so it’s ability to reform the public sector is in reach, and a way to make the sector more fiscally sustainable #LSEIraq
