His first Gospel album called REAL POWER (2000) was called "One of the Best Gospel Albums Ever" by non other the CHRONIXX Before he became Lieutenant STITCHIE in his mid 20's chatting on STEREO ONE SOUND, Cleve Laing was a school teacher in PE and Biology at Tivoli Gardens High School. 📌 :: the photo below is from his first ever stage show at Big Sisters Lawn, in Spanish Town After he started his Gospel career, he received TWO doctorates and wrote a book "The Power Of Determination" (2014) which made him the first ever Reggae or Dancehall artist to write his own biography The honorary doctorates were given to STITCHIE 9 years apart : in 2012 : Cornerstone Christian University in Orlando, Florida, honored his substantial contributions to the global development of gospel reggae music. in 2021 : He was awarded a Doctor of Law degree in International Humanitarian Studies from Dayspring Christian University (Canada) in recognition of his extensive volunteerism, passion for education, and outreach programs inside correctional facilities .... Also in 2021, the government of Jamaica acnkowledged his greatness by giving STITCHIE the order of distinction O.D. - one of the nation's highest honors. Stitchie was always a joy to be around, Probably had one of the most uplifting personalities among any artist I have ever met. I was lucky enough to be the opening act for his concert with Shelly Thunder in Rochester once .. and the trips to and from the radio station was true eye opener into his personality. Such a great sense of CLEAN humor and a genuine down to earth human being. It wasn't a surprise to me when he decided he would only make Gospel Reggae and Dancehall cuz he mentioned God a lot. Always giving thanks and praise. The news of his passing arrives one day after the news of the Calypso icon MIGHTY SPARROW's passing. Two great story tellers ..
