Whelp, I guess the 35 PB NVMe file system on Perlmutter wasn’t the fastest in the world for long. The Orion file system attached to Frontier does 9-12 TB/s. Even its 600+ TB HDD tier is > 5 TB/s.

DDN’s generalized view of AI training workloads is pretty consistent with what I’ve been seeing. If anything, only qualm is small random reads/mmap—big AI customers are already adapting since they find that this doesn’t work well

Lustre has a libfabric network driver now! I wonder if we’ll see anyone besides HPE support kfabric by writing providers beyond the Slingshot CXI interface. Maybe an EFA provider for FSx Lustre?

Surprising amount of interest in Lustre Persistent Client Cache at #LUG23. Makes great sense in a lot of AI workloads I see, but the implementation sounded scary to me. Looking forward to hearing how it works in the field.
Looks like a great speaker line-up, including my esteemed colleague @dsundarraj who will be talking about what we did to create our new Azure Managed Lustre service. Hoping I’ll be able to make it to sunny San Diego next month!
