Congratulations, India. Now we have the Rice Ethanol Scam in Madhya Pradesh. Step 1: An ethanol plant buys rice from the government at a subsidised price of ₹2,320 per quintal. Step 2: Instead of using the rice to make ethanol, the plant sells it to rice mill owners for ₹2,800 per quintal. Step 3: Profit of ₹480 per quintal. Step 4: The rice mill owners pack the same rice in new bags. They also get milling charges from the government. Then they send the same rice back to government warehouses. Step 5: According to the Food Corporation of India, the old rice stored in government warehouses should be sent to ethanol plants. About 50 lakh quintals of rice were allocated to ethanol plants in MP in the past year. Months have passed, but there is still no public statement. The investigation is still going on. According to sources, some big political names are involved. The same rice keeps going in circles so middlemen can make money. The only people who lose are the farmers who grow it. Someone shared this video on Instagram from July 3. A customer refueled at this petrol pump, and shortly afterward the vehicle broke down. When the mechanic inspected it, what was supposed to be petrol reportedly turned out to be water. The customer then returned to the same pump and asked the staff to draw fuel from the same nozzle for testing. In the video, the sample collected in a transparent tube appears to be almost entirely water, which is then shown to the pump manager. The current petrol pump infrastructure was never designed to safely store high ethanol fuel blends. With the monsoon underway, even a small amount of water entering underground storage tanks can trigger phase separation, where ethanol separates from the petrol. This contaminated fuel can then reach vehicles, potentially causing severe engine damage and leaving consumers to bear costly repair bills.
