#IsaacNewton was an English #physicist and #mathematician who developed the principles of modern physics, including the #lawsofmotion, and is recognized as one of the greats of the 17th-century scientific revolution.
His book on physics, "Principle," provides information about almost all essential concepts of #physics, which ultimately helps him explain the laws of motion and the theory of gravity. Together with #GottfriedWilhelmVonLeibniz, Newton is credited with developing essential theories of calculation.
In 1687, after 18 months of tireless work, Newton published "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica", better known as "#Principia".
Considered the most influential book on physics and possibly all of science. His publication suggested Newton was considered an internationally renowned scientist.
"Principle" offers an accurate quantitative description of bodies in motion, with three basic laws of motion:
- First law: A stationary body shall remain stationary unless an external force is applied to it.
- Second law: Force is equal to the mass multiplied by acceleration, and a change in motion is proportional to the force applied.
- Third law: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Newton's laws of motion described helped him reach his theory of gravity. Newton's law of universal gravity states that two objects attract each other with a gravitational force that is proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.
It also allowed him to calculate the mass of #planets, the flattening of the Earth at the poles and the bulging at the equator, and how the gravitational pull of the sun and moon creates the tides of the Earth. According to #Newton, #gravity kept the #universe in balance, made it work, and joined heaven and #earth together in a grand equation.
