Congratulations Suzie Reichman on such a wonderful Leeper Lecture.
A strong message that we need to improve our measurement methods to understand better what's happening.

So the credit card a week of plastic ingested study....Suzie Reichman thinks it could be less. The study has some assumptions that could make it an overestimation.
Good news but we need to look after our planet better & make changes

Soil is a difficult medium for measuring microplastics. Glitter study showed it is in the biosolids.
More method advancement needed.
Lots of studies on sphere plastic in soil but not microfibres.
Good news- Govt regulation started for water. Glitter bans! #LeeperLecture
Maybe Vic branch @SoilScienceAust should have given a trigger warning for food lovers? "This microplastic in soil and food lecture will scare the hell out of you"
Holding on for some good news @Reichman_Lab

Oh man. Chooks, cows, sheep eat the soil which has the plastic. Irrigation water has it, packaging adds more.
Umm teabags too ๐ฅ

Microbes less effected than soil fauna. They may not suffer like fauna do when they chomp on down on a microplastic

Biosolids have microplastic contamination from synthetic fibers. So does your house. OMG.
They've even been found in clouds in China. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Gotta stop wearing that fleecy jacket ๐ฑ

Microplastics in our food. This is a scary topic for a soil science lecture.
Are we eating a credit card worth of plastic each week??!! Suzie will discuss this! ๐ค๐ฌ

Today's sponsors of the 32nd G.W. Leeper Lecture. #LeeperLecture @SoilScienceAust
The lecture is being recorded for those who can't be at Unimelb or online right now.
