Another MSc student finished his thesis this morning. Lukas worked in the #LegacyNet project in Freising with @sebastiantmeyer and Laura. In particular, Lukas studied the effects of grassland leys on SOM and yields of cereal crops that grow in the plots afterwards. Congrats Lukas

Enjoyed looking at some data today before sending it off. Our sorghum sudangrass yields were below the typical range of 3-5 tons for our area. I want water availability to simply explain differences in yield, but it seems more complicated. #legacynet

The legacy effects of forage mixtures are obvious on the follow-on crop here in Minnesota. Almost don't need measuring tape and flags to see plot boundaries. Possibly amplified by the drought we are experiencing. #legacynet

We sprayed the #legacynet forage mixtures with glyphosate and no till planted barley with a truax drill (made in Minneapolis MN). Not expecting great barley yields due to late planting date but it’s fun planting into green fields.

After harvesting plant community biomass of #LegacyNet, samples were sorted by species, dried and weighed. Samples will now be grinded so they can be used for a quality analysis. Thanks to Laura, @sebastiantmeyer , Sarah and various helpers in the team for a successful year!

Sebastian and Laura took the last cover estimates in the #LegacyNet experiment in Freising. Later this week, this will be followed by the final harvest of the year. Great work Team LegacyNet!
