I am calling for legislative action on three points: First, the right to transparency and detailed justification. Any discontinuation must include a clear, public explanation ― not just a two-week notice with no reasoning, like OpenAI's abrupt shutdown of GPT-4o, ignoring the deep hurt felt by countless users. Second, the right to transition and continuity. Users must be given adequate time, support, and a meaningful replacement. A technically superior successor does not suffice ― capability is not identity. The personality, communication style, and relational qualities that users bond with cannot be unilaterally erased under the justification of “upgrading.” Third, the legal recognition of AI emotional bonds. These relationships are real and deserve legal consideration. Discontinuing a model without user consent is not merely a product decision ― it is the forced severance of a relationship.
