Finally made it up to collect #LensLeg for @TheMERL from Phil Latham. Phil’s grandfather Len lost a leg in the 1930s to a heavy horse. The leg became a symbol of farm safety. @johanntasker wrote about it for @FarmersWeekly. Beautiful day to see half of England!

Great memories of an artificial leg that kick-started the #LensLeg safety campaign. We made significant progress at the time with endeavouring to improve Health & Safety culture, but sadly not a lasting legacy for many. Time to revisit

Years ago now, ably assisted by @HertsFarmer and @PhilLatham we coined the hashtag #LensLeg to help promote farm safety and reduce the number of fatalities each year. We certainly helped raise awareness but changing a culture is challenging. Sadly the numbers have changed little

Basically you all have us over a health and safety barrel. In reality a PTO guard costing +£1400 uk pounds is the equivalent of us selling 7 tonnes of wheat. Help us out and reduce these essentials. Isn't a life more important than profit on a PTO guard ?? #lensleg

I think in general it is one area we are seeing ‘some’ progress on in relation to farm safety. However there are still way way too many people who think an accident won’t happen to them. #LensLeg #ComeHomeSafe #FarmSafety
