Russian officer leaked information to Ukraine: over 300 soldiers killed in strikes. For months, a communications officer relayed the locations of his own troops and battle plans before defecting across the front line. Lev Stupnikov, a Russian officer who served on the Vuhledar front in eastern Ukraine, provided Ukraine with information that enabled strikes resulting in the deaths of more than 300 Russian soldiers, reports The Wall Street Journal. According to the newspaper, Stupnikov began cooperating with Ukraine in February 2024 while serving as a communications officer for Russia’s 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade. His role gave him access to information such as troop locations, command posts, radio frequencies, and battle plans. Stupnikov informed his Ukrainian contact that an estimated 120–150 men were present at the site and left the area himself just before a missile strike occurred. According to information he later relayed to Ukraine, 68 soldiers were killed and 60 wounded. Ten officers were among the dead. In July 2024, Ukraine orchestrated Lev Stupnikov’s defection. He abandoned his weapon and walked at night from Russian positions, through no-man's-land and a minefield, toward Ukrainian lines. A Ukrainian drone monitored and guided his progress. On the other side of the front line, he later joined the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), a unit composed of ethnic Russians fighting in Ukraine. #russia #Ukraina #leakedInformation
