One of my favorite guitar and banjo heroes of all time is a black woman named Elizabeth Cotten from Carrboro, NC! Today is her heavenly birthday & the town is celebrating by officially declaring it to be “Libba Cotten Day”! So, I wanted to share my version of “Freight Train”!
Born #OTD in 1893, Elizabeth Cotten is known for her indomitable spirit and unique left-handed guitar style. She wrote her classic “Freight Train” about the train near her childhood home in Carrboro, NC.
