Thanks for joining #LibChatGenrefy. I'm signing off now to prep for another big day in the library tomorrow. Keep those comments and ideas going.
I hope to see some of you in May at the National Education Summit. @NatEduSummit

@Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @MirandaStreeter @NatEduSummit Yes, but I found there was nothing like a good visual to see that we needed more fiction sport books. But it was also about highlighting this section, often hard to find when spread out, to readers. #LibChatGenrefy
What do you reckon @Elizabethutch - 'digital literacy'???

Our last question for the evening is, Q5: I genrefied (or will be/won't be genrefying), so what’s next? This one loops around to our first question. What’s the next buzz word for school libraries. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary Q5 I plan to start genrefying - now need to work out a strategy (possibly starting with middle grade fiction?) #LibChatGenrefy @MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit
@MirandaStreeter @Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @NatEduSummit And it makes it easier for us as library staff. Easier to give recommendation and curate the collection. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary @Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @NatEduSummit Absolutely. At times it comes down to what is most efficient - being able to hook readers with easy access to a genre that they like. Removing barriers to finding books that they know they like (before encouraging then to try something different) #LibChatGenrefy
@MirandaStreeter @Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @NatEduSummit And then having time with them to encourage all that learning. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary @Elizabethutch @NatEduSummit This is a whole different conversation :) :)
I am trying to teach the kids how to read the call labels and if I had $1 for everytime they were going to shelve a book under F I could go on that round the world trip that's on my bucket list. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary @Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @NatEduSummit Totally agree that students need to learn how to navigate the library - getting classes through the doors can often be the challenge #LibChatGenrefy @MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit
@Elizabethutch @AnniePinto1 @NatEduSummit This is a great point. Teaching students to navigate a library system is an important skill to learn, no matter the system. Would you agree? #libchatgenrefy
@MirandaStreeter @NatEduSummit Having duplicate copies is powerful. The power of a good recommendation from friend and how this spreads through a class is fun to watch. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary A4 Book displays near the entrance (which are often genre-based, hence my interest in exploring this further). Book talks with classes. Buying duplicate copies of books so friends can read together. #LibChatGenrefy @MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit
@MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit Here are a couple of examples. I created them on Google Slides and we had them up as part of a regular slide show within the library and also on our eLibrary interface. #LibChatGenrefy
@MirandaStreeter @NatEduSummit Mainly just in-library. We had displays, book chats with English classes, Genre quizzes, games and lots more signage. #LibChatGenrefy
@MadisonsLibrary A3: Lots of help to move everything around, label books and create signage. Followed by promoting and 'marketing'.
I created some digital slides for my old workplace re the different genres. Will try and locate them to share here. #LibChatGenrefy
I found the way to get students to read is to know the styles they like and genrefy them/suggest these styles to others. Genre stickers in normal fiction collection bad as they still need to search everything to find what they want. #libchatgenrefy @MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit
#Libchatgenrefy A3: What are some of the ways you have promoted your genrefied collection? #LibChatGenrefy Here are some pics of things we have tried.
@MadisonsLibrary A1 Seems to be gathering momentum in TL chat. I inherited a lib where is previously wasn’t a consideration, but after discussions with students, I’m inclined to try it #LibChatGenrefy @MadisonsLibrary @NatEduSummit
@MadisonsLibrary A1: I think genrefication is something that would work well in a high school setting rather than a primary. At a primary level I am more focussed on getting the cherubs to read - specially the reluctant readers. #LibChatGenrefy
Having a quiet lurk in #LibChatGenrefy this evening. I'm a metadata librarian with a keen interest in deconstructing classification systems (though atm I don't actually get to classify much), so I'm keen to hear how others are approaching the topic :)
