This week's #LibraryFriday is all about our very own building! This book contains everything you need to know - it has beautiful pictures of the old department and the new, and lots of history of the department.
For this #LibraryFriday, we celebrate one of department librarian Elizabeth's favourite titles! It can be found in the ‘quantitative reasoning’ part of the Maths section. Two postgraduates helped reclassify the section when she first started working in the department.
This book, written by former Head of Department Gideon Henderson, is in the reference section of the library. This means it is always available for consultation! #LibraryFriday

On this #LibraryFriday we highlight our large collection of world maps. They are held in map cabinets in a corridor just to the side of the library. Undergraduates consult them when they’re planning mapping projects, and other students and staff use the when planning fieldwork!
Mike Searle published this beautifully illustrated book in 2013. It is often out on loan when our department librarian Elizabeth tries to put it on display for open days! #LibraryFriday
There is a good run of Geological Society Special Publications in the library, and this one is written by our own @tamsinmather and @davidmpyle! #LibraryFriday
#LibraryFriday is back! This week we're highlighting one of the oldest books in the library - Vesuvius by Phillips, J.
This book has recently been mended by Temple Bookbinders, and is kept in the confined cupboard!
The final #LibraryFriday of the year is dedicated to this brilliant book by Bernie Wood and Don Fraser. This book flies off the shelves so fast our departmental librarian Elizabeth Crowley has to encourage the Radcliffe Science Library and college libraries to buy extra copies!
This week's #LibraryFriday spotlight is on The Geology of the Northern North Sea, part of the British Geological Survey collection which is housed in the basement. Memoirs, sheet explanations, reports & regional guides complement the map collection held in the library.
Next up for #LibraryFriday is a book by our very own Ros Rickaby, Chair of Geology, titled Evolution's Destiny: Co-Evolving Chemistry of the Environment and Life!

Our #LibraryFriday series continues with "The fossil Woman: a Life of Mary Anning". This book was given to us at the height of the pandemic and is a great addition of our biography section!
Next up in our #LibraryFriday series are books from the library's new ‘Careers in Earth Sciences – Skills’ section. It holds books on referencing, citation and plagiarism, study skills, publishing, funding, careers and scientific communication!

Not just for books! #libraryfriday introduces you to our large collection of world maps. The library also has a large collection of flat and folded BGS and Ordnance Survey maps.
For the final #libraryfriday of March we share volumes of the Ocean Drilling Project, stored in our basement, they have always been borrowed in the old-style way – using a card, but an ongoing project is adding barcodes.
