Now that a few days have passed and things have settled for my wife and me, I want to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on recent events.
First and foremost, I extend my deepest gratitude to the University of New Mexico’s unparalleled fan base. Being part of such a historic and successful season in the iconic arena known as The Pit has been an honor.
Next, I want to express my sincere appreciation and respect for the finest coaching staff in the Mountain West Conference. This exceptional team embodies what I consider the ten E’s in coaching:

📦✅•Encouraging: Providing support and confidence to players
📦✅•Elite: Representing the best; superior in quality and rank.
Reflecting on my son’s final basketball season, I deeply appreciate these qualities. Lobos Nation has been privileged to experience this excellence over the past four years under Coach Richard Pitino and his staff. With Coach Pitino’s recent decision to leave New Mexico for Xavier, it’s a time not long for disappointment but for gratitude. He has elevated the Lobos’ brand to a level where many coaches are eager for the opportunity to be part of the University of New Mexico. The program is well-positioned to compete in the evolving landscape of college sports, thanks to the leadership of individuals like @BrooklynEsq (Kurt Roth) and the support of the 505 Sports Venture Foundation.
The Pit remains a mecca of basketball arenas, and the passionate Lobos fan base is second to none. As the search for a new head coach begins, trust in Athletic Director Lovo and his team. They will undoubtedly attract a strong pool of candidates. In my personal opinion, sometimes the best choice is already within the organization. Colorado State University recently demonstrated the value of investing in existing staff. It’s not always about hiring a big-name coach but finding the right FIT at the right time. I believe the current staff possesses individuals with the qualifications and dedication needed to continue the program’s success.
