#Kerala: #LDF unveils 2025 #localbodypoll manifesto Positioning itself as the sole guardian of decentralisation and secular governance in the country, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Saturday released its manifesto for the 2025 local body elections, projecting the polls as a battle with national implications. The front placed heavy emphasis on strengthening grassroots democracy, expanding welfare schemes, and accelerating Kerala’s transition to a knowledge-driven economy. The manifesto argues that Kerala’s status as India’s leading state in decentralisation is rooted in the People’s Planning movement launched in 1996, and accuses the Congress-led UDF of consistently undermining local governance. It also lashes out at the BJP-led Union government for “blockade-like discrimination” against Opposition-ruled states, asserting that the LDF government has nevertheless managed to allocate nearly ₹70,000 crore to local bodies during its current term—more than double the grant under the previous UDF rule.
