The Creative Power of Standout Work
After more than 30 years in this industry, I still feel a certain childlike excitement approaching #Loeries week. The anticipation, the varied conversations, and the sense we’re about to celebrate the best work that rises above the noise and clutter. It never gets old.
In a world where attention has become the most precious currency, where people are bombarded with tens of thousands of messages each day, only standout work gets noticed. And awarded work, by definition, is noticed work. That’s the bar. That’s the challenge. That’s the magic.
What makes the Loeries special isn’t only the recognition of brilliance, but the reminders they give us: that in a distracted, fractured world, bold ideas are the only things that still cut through. Craft matters deeply. Originality still counts for everything. And cultural relevance is prized. That combination creates a winner.
This year, I am especially thrilled that 33 finalists come from within our The Up&Up Group. But that is not what matters most. What matters is all the work itself - the ideas that made us laugh, made us think, or even made us cry. The ideas that earn their place in our collective memory.
So here’s to every finalist, every client, agency, winner, every creative team that stayed late, fought hard, and kept believing in the power of an idea. The biggest lie told in our industry is “Great work sells itself”. Untrue. Great work is bold, brave, can cut-through, stands out and is fresh. It takes courage and wisdom to create and then sell this work - and smart clients to buy it.
May this year’s Loeries remind us once again: the work that stands out, is the work that stands tall, and work that will embody ROI (Relevance. Originality. Impact) and that in turn will deliver ROI (Return on Investment).
