Today's #LoveDesignInMicro is Rin's confirmation.
In this scene, Rin has just seen the paintings she fell in love with in Kitakyushu 3 years ago, in Aokbab's house (I've broken down *that* scene previously in this series).
Rin is simultaneously shocked, speechless, and almost heartbroken. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine she would see those paintings again, let alone in the possession of this woman who was pursuing her for her architecture company.
It is so inconceivable and unbelievable, that Rin has to check whether it is true. What are the odds? How could it be?
So she goes to Aokbab, now completely different than her confident and self-assured demeanor up until this point.
"Have you ever been to Kitakyushu?" is her simple question, followed up by another urgent, "Just answer." She does not want to share her discovery, yet, with Aokbab. She wants to hold it close for now. We know she saves that for the perfect moment later on, in one of the best scenes of the series.
Aokbab's response changes Rin's entire world.
Like the previous scene where she first sees the paintings, Janeyeh's acting in subtle expressions here, is superb. The flutter of her eyes, the exhalation with the beginnings of a smile. Her face almost shy, but now knowing.
Rin's heart is beginning to expand, opening to infinite possibilities. With this confirmation, she is already starting to lay down the first foundations for her confession to her first love, when the time is right.

Love Design is so dear to so many, because of the heartfelt story arc, Kao and Janeyeh’s embodiment of Aokbab and Rin, the cinematography, music, location choices, and more. 🥰
But one of the most important reasons that Love Design is so cherished by its audiences around the world, is because of how the team chose to include us, the audience.👥
There are different tactics that are employed throughout the series, but one that always stays with me is how the director chose to allow us to “dwell” to participate in the scenes themselves. 🏡
Three specific moments include:
💠The pause on Aokbab’s drawings while Rin is seeing them for the first time.
💠The pause on the selfie that Rin takes at the sunset outlook.
💠The pause on the photo of them posing for their union ceremony photographer.
Each of these 3 pauses is much longer than an average cinematic pause on a subject. 🕰️
The elongated moments allow us to dwell inside the screen, with Rin and Aokbab, becoming a part of the story, almost as if we were there, pausing and taking it all in. They are unhurried, giving us time to peruse, observe, and feel. 🐢
It is such a generous technique. Whereas many cinematographers do not use this for fear of the viewer’s loss of attention or momentum, for Love Design, the pauses instead pull us in further.🎣
For Aokbab’s paintings, the pause causes us to look closer, to literally lean forward, to see what Rin is feeling (recall that it has not yet been revealed why Rin is so moved by these at this point).🖼️
For the selfie taken at the sunset outlook, we are indulged in the perfect romance of the moment. And that pause makes us also want to ask the question Rin ends up asking for us, “Do you think they would kiss here?”🤳🌅
And for the final snap of their union ceremony, it is as if we are there, in the temple in Kitakyusu, bearing witness to these two women that we have come to love so deeply. It is as if that click of the camera’s shutter has permanently stored that photo in our minds. It certainly is forever in mine. 📸
There is no other series has shifted me the way Love Design has. I am so grateful to every element that brought it together. And most of all, I am grateful to Janeyeh and Kao, for using the gift of your expertise, to make something out of nothing, which to me, is magic. Thank you for your magic. 🪄

#LoveDesignInMicro Today in this series, I share a short clip that packs so much into it, when it comes to establishing the personalities of Aokbab and Rin early on in the series.
While briefing Rin on Khun Rain and Khun Ming's vacation home, Rin accidentally knocks over a glass of water. How they each react is such a colorful method of breaking down their personalities, and their approaches under pressure. These reactions not only repeat themselves throughout the series, but they also evolve as they get to know each other.
When the water spills, Rin's first reaction is to place the glass upright (even though there is no water remaining in it), and Aokbab's is to move the laptop and notebook to the side.
Rin, by setting the glass upright, is creating a sense of stability first. Aokbab, by moving the objects to the side, is trying to prevent future damage. Rin is much more concerned about the present moment, and Aokbab is always thinking about the future what ifs.
(And bonus, Mind signifies the past.)
Rin's second reaction is to mop up the spill with her sleeve, while Aokbab reaches for her bag for tissues, but not without smacking Rin first when she see’s Rin’s use of her sleeve.
Rin uses the first thing she can think of to almost impulsively sop up the water. It is swift and effective, but perhaps not thinking of the later consequence of the wet sleeve. Aokbab is willing to let the present spill continue slightly longer, so that she can get the tissues to clean up the mess. Again, Rin is concerned about now, and Aokbab is more concerned about what's ahead.
Aokbab also views the world in more rigid terms of a "right way" and a "wrong one." So she smacks Rin's arm because in her mind, Rin's approach was clearly wrong, also pointing out clumsiness as a shortcoming.
To Rin, her direction is guided by her heart, which is less about right and wrong, and more about what moves her, abruptness and all.
We see this play out repeatedly throughout Love Design. Rin acts passionately and spontaneously in the moment. Aokbab is detail-oriented, and a future planner.
What is so beautiful about Love Design and their relationship, is we get to witness their character arcs develop, and how they manage to meet each other in the middle.
Even a few seconds can tell you everything. And a few seconds can also change it all again .

So much has happened since that first day, when the tiny seeds 🌱 for 9779s were planted, and Love Design started shaping into the masterpiece it is today.
So many amazing memories🥹 and also some painful ones.🥺
Originally, the idea was always only for a single project, Love Design. Everything else that came after, wasn’t part of the plan.
So now I try to think of the 9779s as a community around Love Design. No expectations. Just an incredible, magical community 🪄 that happened in a moment in time, because of the chemistry and extraordinary acting of two people I loved before Love Design even, and will continue to love and support in their own dreams moving forward, too. 💭
No matter what the future holds, Love Design will always exist, and that is proof that we existed, too. Thank you Rin, Aokbab, Love Design, Janeyeh, and Kao. 📐
Sometimes it all seems like a dream. But then I come on here and see you all. Or I re-watch Love Design, and am happy. Because Love Design and Aokbab and Rin, will always be forever. 🥹💗♾️

#LoveDesignInMicro Today I bring you a scene of Aokbab and her being unable to resist the ever cheery, optimistic, and hungry, Rin.
This scene plays out many times over the course of Love Design, in different forms, shapes, and settings, one of Rin trying to warm up Aokbab, who acts rigid at first, but ends up giving in to Rin's antics.
Here Aokbab finds she is without company for a site visit to Khun Rain and Khun Ming’s house. She reluctantly and visibly annoyed, asks Rin to accompany her.
Rin, who is searching for opportunities to spend more time with her first love, is eager and ready, and proposes a sleepover trip. At first obstinate, it only takes Rin’s grumpy pout and endless hope for joy, to easily change Aokbab’s mind. This is Rin's superpower.
There is already something thawing within Aokbab, a side of herself that has remained locked away for too long. And this bright, cheery, kid-like Rin, is the one who slowly, steadily, pushes her way through to open up Aokbab’s heart once again. 💝

Love Design the book was written *with* the series, unlike many GL/BLs where the series is created based on an existing novel.
So the book’s portrayal is as close to verbatim as you can be, for many parts.
Check out the read if you haven’t, as it can act as an accompanying guide to the series. At times, there are additional descriptions on motivation and background of the characters’ actions, in the book, too.

Today I’m sharing the 4 times Rin nose kisses Aokbab.
The first 3 times (including the pilot) Janeyeh smiles shyly, and it is the 4th time finally she does not.
What a loving thread to give us throughout, the nose kisses. What a beautiful touch. 😘👃🏼

Two bts clips and the Final Cut, for one of the most iconic scenes of Love Design, the sunset kiss.
In the bts, you can see how bashful Janeyeh was, trying to play off her shyness.
Note how specific the Director was for the scene with his notes, but also how Kao and Janeyeh made it their own.
You also see how Janeyeh and Kao each digest the script, how they learn, and process information.
In a previous take (bottom clip), Aokbab approaches Rin more gradually, looks much more intently at Rin’s eyes, and wraps her hand tighter than the final version. And Janeyeh’s head does indeed start tilting first, instead of acting surprised.
There were multiple takes, spliced together. Janeyeh’s hand placement on Kao’s shoulder changes multiple times, and the sunset is at at different stages throughout the scene.
The surprised face moment acted by Janeyeh is one of the most remarkable of the series. She manages to not only express shock, but also simultaneous desire in response to Aokbab’s advance. This is no easy feat, expressing surprise and want at the same time requires next level acting skills. Skills that Janeyeh has under her belt many times over.

#LoveDesignInMicro I’m back! This time to cover Rin’s 3 conditions. This is where we see Rin set up the building blocks to balance power.
To get to know Aokbab, Rin understands that she must establish herself as Aokbab’s peer, not her subordinate. This is why the bathtub scene later in the series is even more heart breaking, because despite setting herself up as an equal, Aokbab, in her injured heart, retreats back to the boss/subordinate dynamic.
Rin leverages the fact that she is talented, gifted, and needed, to create equal ground.
Her empath super powers determine that rage-baiting Aokbab is a path to chisel away at the boss-employee wall. She is correct in her assessment, because every time she incenses Aokbab, which, in the beginning, is every interaction, Aokbab herself is surprised by how easily Rin gets under her skin. RinYeh is like a cat, kneading at its person, sometimes with claws, but eventually, it becomes the most endearing to Aokbab.
The first two conditions, no working beyond hours and no calls/texts for work after hours, is Rin setting boundaries between Work and Play. She needs to separate the two so that she can separate between Aokbab as her boss, and Aokbab her first love.
This brings us to her third condition, where Rin essentially builds in a weekly date, to ensure she can get to know Aokbab personally. It is a placeholder so that she is not only favored, but also receives special treatment from Aokbab beyond an employee. She is guaranteeing herself time, space, and access to a personal bond to build with her first love.
Rin’s 3 conditions bring us through:
Rage baiting ➡️
Teasing ➡️
Support ➡️
Unconditional love ❤️
It is a clever character strategy, because it holds together the entire storyline, and showcases the character development of both Rin and Aokbab to rounder, fuller beings. It transitions through the stages of the two falling in love with each other over the course of the series. The very ones we have also fallen in love with, too.

We all know about Rin’s 3 rocks. Her loyal companions that she brings into JINTA. These rocks are not only her friends, but they also represent Rin’s inner self.
Her confident and sassy exterior, has a tender inward side that finds safety in confiding in her rocks. She tells them they can take their time adjusting, and that she knows the change will be hard. These are also words to herself as she made the sudden move to join JINTA in hopes of connecting with Aokbab.
Her rock friends make several appearances throughout the series.
We see them at JINTA, but also beside her bed in her own room. Here, there are many more rock friends, in the shape of trees, symbolic markings, a house, fish, a yellow chick, and puppy. Each has their own purpose and connection with Rin. Each with their own story and history.
And then we see two of them make an appearance again, the yellow smiling face from the office, and the yellow chick from her room, connecting the worlds. This time, they are in Aokbab’s home, where Aokbab places them on her office desk carefully to make Rin feel at home, too. This gesture is profound and poignant, as it shows how Aokbab loves Rin as she is, in her entirety, inside and out.
Rin has so much more inside her heart than is shown in her character portrayal on screen. We as viewers only get small hints. But it is details like these, that give us more insight into the backstory of Rin, and her gentle, insistent, and true heart that eventually even opened up the most closed one of Aokbab.
I love you Rin and Aokbab.

It’s been a minute since my last #LoveDesignInMicro but I’ve been busy fighting for our @Kaosupassara9 and @janeeeyeh. I am sharing this specific clip now because it is all about trauma and the empathy that can heal it. So without further ado:
Aokbab believed she was in a private meeting with Khun Ming, Khun Rain, and Rin, but Mind has just walked in, flooding Aokbab with the trauma of her past.
Aokbab is now excruciatingly aware of Mind’s presence around her, and she is at first gutted by the painful memories. Then Kao shifts the energy to a young Aokbab, so she feels small and powerless again, almost defeated. All of this is accomplished solely through Kao’s extraordinary micro expressions. The viewer can feel the heaviness of the air vividly in this moment. But Kao snaps back into grown Aokbab in an instant, bracing and steeling herself by directly opposing Mind’s answer with resolve.
This is where we see Rin’s deep and innate empathy in play. Recall, at this point, Rin has learned that Aokbab is the painter of the images that captured her heart. And right now, she senses that Aokbab is feeling hurt, that it has to do with matters of the heart, and Rin even begins to feel a twinge of protectiveness. Janeyeh incredibly uses every single element on her face in unison, to portray these deep emotions.
Everything after that, even with Khun Ming speaking, falls into silence for Aokbab. She is not pulled out of it until she hears “Love Makes a Home,” which reveals a searing torment again. The viewer does not yet fully know the reason at this juncture, but we are now given a big hint about the pain that Aokbab carries, Mind’s past role, and even Rin’s future one.
In a very small move, Aokbab’s healing is already beginning.

Their acting backgrounds shine through, in both. Love Design would have been an entirely different series had Kao played Rin, and Janeyeh played Aokbab. It would have been sincere and hilarious still, but in such different ways.
Bonus points to the team for the costumes.
Kao plays a fierce Aokbab, but her baby comes through in Rin. And Janeyeh plays an adorable Rin, but her seriousness comes through in Aokbab. It’s so perfect either way. Two versions of Love Design that would be incredible either way.

#LoveDesignInMicro Janeyeh talks about how at this point, she didn’t yet fully understand or develop who Rin was supposed to be as a character.
Aokbab and Rin’s dynamic ended up being decidedly different in the series, so we get insight into how Kao and Janeyeh developed their characters. These were still closer to Kao and Janeyeh, rather than Aokbab and Rin.
Aokbab leans down gently, showing doting care. Rin slowly softens while looking up, and with that growing smile, she lights up the entire screen. There is love in that illumination.
This version of Rin was not the puppydog version one we ended up getting in the actual series. But this version of Rin that changed Aokbab’s life, is the girl that, in fact, changed Kao’s life.

This clip is slightly longer than my usual #LoveDesignInMicro bits, but that's because that extra time is what drives this particular scene.
Aokbab has come from her house, after leaving Rin, who just realized that Aokbab is the woman behind the paintings.
This scene uses extended timing, tight face shots, and pauses on each facial expression to create a sense of eager anticipation.
After Tertis asks, everyone has a breath-holding moment of hope. But we shift to the long pause that dwells on Aokbab's face, filled with the immense burden and guilt of letting the company down.
When Rin enters, Aokbab is shocked and in disbelief. While Rin still has her smirk, it is notably softer around the edges now. And as she begins to announce her decision, again there is a long lull of anticipation. Everyone in the office is bracing themselves, and so are we, the viewers.
Rin dramatically confirms that she will work with the company and everyone in the background is celebrating, ecstatic. But Aokbab, in the foreground, is frozen, still incredulous. This entire scene, she is almost on the verge of tears, even.
And then the final 30 seconds is simply Aokbab and Rin looking at each other. Aokbab seeing the beginning of hope in this strange woman who has surprised her again. Rin, meeting her gaze directly, seeing a path to connect with this woman for whom her heart has already fallen. Then back to Aokbab's face, grateful, questioning, and overwhelmed. And finally landing on Rin's again, who is cleverly pleased with herself, and whose mind is already racing with a plan to win over Aokbab, her first and only love.

#LoveDesignInMicro In this scene, Aokbab and Rin are meeting with Khun Rain and Khun Mink for the first time.
The scene establishes Rin’s reputation on her own, but digging deeper, we also begin to see Aokbab’s understanding of it in relationship to Jinta and herself.
Rin is humble and even awkwardly shy about the recognition, whereas Aokbab is at first smiling, then beaming, with respect and admiration.
By witnessing an outside party acknowledge Rin’s talent, Aokbab begins to understand what that means for Jinta. She can now hope that Rin represents a fighting chance for the company.
Aokbab is a highly skilled architect herself. With the attention on Rin, she smiles and observes the praise being showered on her.
Aokbab is *appreciating* Rin. Aokbab is *proud* of Rin. Yes, as a fellow architect, but it is also the moment we see the seed planted for Aokbab to be proud to be *beside* Rin.
This is all just in time, as Mind is about to re-enter Aokbab’s life. Fortunately, Rin has already made it into Aokbab’s mind as someone who is not only on her side, but also, right beside her.

This is the first time Aokbab and Rin meet in person, for they've already "met" before in heart, Rin through Aokbab's paintings, and Aokbab through Rin's note and returning of her notebook.
Even before this encounter, they have been thinking about each other already. When we say that energy is real, this is an example of how for them, it already existed in this scene, without them or us even fully knowing it yet.
We immediately are shown that architecture is a deeply ingrained passion within Aokbab by how she notices it on the café building, and feels compelled to share her thoughts. She is excited about it, and analytical.
In Rin's first words calling Aokbab out, and even aging her by referring to her as "lady," we see again Rin's ultimate confidence and self assuredness. She is brilliant, young, and beautiful, and she fully embodies all of it.
Her first instinct is to defend the café, almost wanting to protect it from this "lady," which speaks to her gentle character and empathy, even through her ferocity.
When she matter-of-factly states the renovation code legality, Aokbab's entire energy changes from one of defensiveness to one of being humbled, but also curiosity. Her heart has been piqued by this young feisty being, who is formidable. Aokbab cannot help but be softened, even in this first conflict. Their connection is now made. Their paths go forward together from now on.
And even without knowing the full story, we, as viewers, realize their love story is just beginning.

#LoveDesignInMicro The first time we hear Aokbab’s voice, is after she has waded through a chaotic and cluttered Jinta Architect building, only to come upon 2 people (who we later learn are her brothers) bickering.
Her interrupting voice is higher, almost sharp, and she is markedly annoyed. We also do not yet know why she is there, nor who these people are to her, at this point.
We simultaneously learn her name, Aokbab, meaning “Design.”
With all of this, her character is already given weight and significance. Design, everything stops on her command, arms crossed, huffing, and commanding the attention not only of the entire office, but also of the viewers who are already hooked, and lean forward to learn more about this dominating and beautiful woman.
This, all even before the opening credits.
