I am a Non Bhramin too. Nobody in my family knew music. Born in a lower middle class, upper caste family. Parents are from rural background settled in Urban area.
Started learning Carnatic in college. My mother would give me money for Auto. I would take the bus to save and spend my pocket money on music fee.
Today, my leftist friends in University say my musical excellence is because of being born in a particular caste.!
Remember art takes perseverance. You don't excel just because you throw money or belong to elite section.
I repeat no teacher declined to teach me Carnatic due to my caste.
And I don't decline teaching today on those parameters.
My criteria is simple- respect the tradition and love your God!🙏.
