As expected, corporate media & MAGA pols are touting ultra-left sectarian Mamdani as the new face and future of the Democratic Party, stressing the usual excitement-enthusiasm-energy hype. But this ignores the weakness of Mamdani’s result. As JC Polanco said on CBS 2’s The Point today, NYC usually has about 70% Democratic voters. Mamdani got only 50.4%, meaning that some 20% of Dems did not vote for him. Both Spannberger & Sherrill did better than this. So reality is the reverse of the corporate media narrative & “democratic socialist” party line. What politician thinks that losing 20% of your party for starters is a recipe for success? Mamdani is a voter repellent starting on the West Bank of the Hudson, the best foil for Trump, and an optimal pretext for sending troops and denying federal funding. Mamdani is not the new face of anything. He recalls the case of Vito Marcantonio, the Harlem congressman who sympathized with the Soviets during the Cold War. New York produces such figures from time to time during a crisis.
