As Fire Chief, one of the most powerful moments of a graduation is when recruits stand together as a class to recite the firefighter’s oath and dept. mission statement. For #MDFRClass156, today was a defining moment, marking the beginning of their commitment to a life of service.
Today, #MDFR welcomed 46 new Probationary Firefighters as the recruits of #MDFRClass156 graduated. Surrounded by their families and loved ones, the recruits have officially received their badges and are ready to serve in fire stations across #OurCounty starting next week.

Yesterday, #MDFRClass156 completed the Traditions Run, a three mile trek through the streets of downtown Doral. Joining the recruits for the run were firefighters, MDFR leadership, Ocean Rescue personnel, and the recruits from @DoralPolice.

Ahead of their graduation later this week, the recruits from #MDFRClass156 visited various #MDFR stations across #OurCounty today to get a better understanding of station life and the responsibilities they’ll take on as firefighter trainees. The recruits had the opportunity to connect with current firefighters and experienced some of the daily duties that are shared during their shifts.
Yesterday, #MDFRClass156 provided a demonstration of some of the firefighting skills they have been learning since their training began last fall to their loved ones during their Family Night. “Welcome to the Family” was the theme of the evening, as family members were shown around the #MDFR Training Center.
Today, #MDFR Capt. Bill Gustin, a firefighter with over four decades of experience, taught a class to #MDFRClass156 on building construction related to firefighting. Capt. Gustin’s desire to learn fuels his passion for teaching, allowing him to share his extensive knowledge with the next generation of firefighters and ensure they’re ready to serve our community.
This week, as Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus closed for winter recess, #MDFRClass157 joined #MDFRClass156 at the #MDFR Training Center. For now, the two classes will train side-by-side, until MDC re-opens following recess, and Class 157 returns to their minimum standards training.
This week, #MDFRClass156 tackled firefighter survival training, facing real-world scenarios designed to test their skills and prepare them for challenges they may encounter in the field. Instructors guided recruits through situations such as being separated from their crew in a darkened room, finding exits blocked by fire or debris and navigating collapses.
For #MDFRClass156, most days begin with some form of physical training. These regimens are designed by their training instructors, who complete the morning physical training right alongside the recruits.
This week, Recruit Class 156 donned bunker gear and air bottles and began their workout by climbing the six flights of the training tower at the #MDFR Training Center.
The exercise continued under the canopy with an assortment of equipment, after which the recruits headed for the classroom for a lecture and then onto the training ground for hands on instruction.
Having received their silver firefighter badges last week, #MDFRClass155 has begun shift work serving the citizens of #OurCounty. Now, #MDFRClass156 has begun training for their new careers as #MDFR firefighters. The class, 50 strong, is pictured here in their classroom at the start of their journey toward graduation on Feb.
