I think DHS employees will be the first to say that navigating social services is HARD (but that’s a rant for another time). I was so amazed by these strong women who are taking the small help available to them & are making incredible things happen for their families. 🤩 #MFIP86

We heard from resilient mothers who used MFIP to get back on their feet despite facing difficult challenges - including some who have gone back to school, started their own businesses and taken jobs that allow them to pay it forward.

I didn’t realize how good it would feel to put #MFIP86 on a graphic announcing that it is finally increasing. There is still a long way to go - but tomorrow marks an exciting new step for so many MN families 💕 @hired_mn @AvivoMN @LtGovFlanagan

In 2019, @GovTimWalz and @LtGovFlanagan recognize that 1986 dollars aren’t enough to build economic well-being for children and families. See their proposal to help move families out of poverty: https://t.co/GczNlHlNG1 #MFIP86 #OneMinnesota

We're sad the @Twins game is postponed - so here's some baseball trivia: Did you know? The last time the #MFIP cash grant was increased, the Twins were still 1 year away from winning their first World Series for Minnesota. #MFIP86 #FlashbackFriday 📸: @mnhs

#TFW it’s 1986 and you hear cash assistance for Minnesota families in poverty won’t be increased for 33 more years 😐 (DHS DWP/ #MFIP Policy & Performance Supervisor Kristen Shouman on her 12th birthday) #MFIP86 #FlashbackFriday

Assistant Commissioner for Health Care & State #Medicaid Director @MarieZMedicaid knows that families who turn to #MFIP after a health crisis would be helped by even a small increase. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened since Marie was 7 years old. #MFIP86

The last time #MFIP cash assistance was increased, Governor Rudy Perpich was in office. Minnesota has seen 5 more governors since then. #MFIP86 #TBT 📸: @mnhs

Some #MFIP families receive a $110 housing assistance grant. Despite this, the number of homeless families with children has grown almost fourfold since 1986. In 1986, HUD fair market rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in the Twin Cities was $480. Today, it is $1,151. #MFIP86

The average cost of a movie ticket has increased by over 231% since 1986. Cash assistance for Minnesota families living in poverty hasn't increased at all. #MFIP86 P.S. The highest grossing movie of 1986 was #TopGun 📽️🍿

I'm taking a cue from @DHSCommLourey & sharing a pic to make an important point. The provider tax has been funding market analyses & statewide rural/safety net sppt since 1992. A lot has changed since then (like my hair), but the need is even greater now. #mnleg #DontLetTheSunSet
