Over the last five years, the losses incurred by Mattala #MRIA have surpassed its total construction investment, according to the report. Had the airport been strategically located in an area, such as Jaffna, rather than chosen due to political considerations, it could have generated substantial profits instead of enduring significant losses. But the Rajapaksas wanted an airport in proximity to their home town.
#MRIA is undoubtedly a failed infrastructure project. ROI and other financial indicators suggest that the airport has not met its expectations. The project was driven more by political considerations than strategic planning. These failed projects are few reasons why our country has fallen into the economic crisis.
