On Monday, an #Argofloat that was malfunctioning and drifting on surface since March 2018 was recovered by RV Maria S. Merian on her transit from Svalbard to Edinburg after #MSM77 cruise. Many thanks to Captain Ralf Schmidt, the crew and chief scientist Dr Thomas Soltwedel!
As we approach Edinburgh #msm77 is coming to an end. Plenty of samples and images to go through to assess the effects of #climatechange on #Arctic #deepsea life. What species will be the first 'loosers'? Will we find yet fewer sea cucumbers (Kolga hyalina) in 2018? @AWI_Media
It's done: the last #deepsea sediment samples of expedition #MSM77 in the #Arctic were taken! They enable us to assess if #microplastic levels have increased. In 2015 & 2016, we found >6,000 & 13,000 particles per kg sediment, 80% were <25 um. #HAUSGARTEN #plastic @AWI_Media
Yippieh! #AUV PAUL has accomplished its first ever #benthic #deepsea mission (1500m) at #HAUSGARTEN #observatory in the #Arctic! The sidescan sonar payload even plotted an object looking like our crawler NOMAD, which currently profiles oxygen at this station #MSM77 @AWI_Media

Hurrah, our TRAMPER is back! This crawler moved along the #Deepsea floor 10m per week and measured oxygen in the #HAUSGARTEN sediment for 1 year. This is important to observe as oxygen depletion is an expected side effect of #climatechange. #msm77 @AWI_Media
