Ever wondered how many different versions of #Elite there are? Well, here are 27 of them - all helpfully identified - but there are still one or two which have so far eluded me. The rarest of these is probably #EinsteinElite or #MSXElite. The best IMHO is BBC disc Elite.

#MSXElite was definitely one of the best 8-bit versions of the game, and probably the finest game for the very capable #MSX computer. The machine was not particularly successful in the UK, but had a big following in other countries. #Elite was released for it by Firebird in 1987.

In the 1980s, 3 years was a long time in the development of computer games. So when #MSXElite was released in 1987, it demonstrated a number of improvements over the originals. A fast, colourful display with all the ships and secret missions made this a top conversion.

MSX owners! In 1987 Mr Micro & Firebird enabled you to enter David Braben and Ian Bell's amazing galaxy in #MSXElite 🙂

#MSXElite was an excellent colourful version of the game with a wide variety of ships, but for some reason the system description algorithm ran differently to other 8-bit versions, altering the details of locations such as Zaonce shown here🤷‍♂️

Two of the most difficult versions of Elite to get hold of - #MSXElite and #EinsteinElite Only the Opus disc #SpectrumElite is more elusive 😞

So, the final results are in for the best versions of #Elite 😃 1. #BBCElite (disk version) - the original and the benchmark 2. #NESElite - miraculous and very playable too 3. #ArcElite - 32 bit wizardry and enhanced NPC AI 4. #MSXElite - complete game for an underrated machine

#MSXElite was programmed by Rob Nicholson of Mr Micro and released by Firebird in 1987. It was available on cassette tape and disk, the latter version featuring a larger variety of ships - including the Wolf Mk II and Cougar - and secret missions. Another good version of Elite.
