#M_PESA reports five million active users in #Ethiopia Addis Abeba — #Safaricom’s mobile money service, M-PESA, has reached five million active customers in Ethiopia, measured over a 90-day period, the company announced. In a statement issued on 31 December 2025, M-PESA Ethiopia said it now operates a nationwide network of more than 50,000 agents and merchants and enables money transfers to and from 18 commercial banks. The service, launched in August 2023 by Kenyan telecommunications firm Safaricom—the first private operator to enter Ethiopia’s previously state-run telecom sector—also reported growth across its financial products. Its micro-loan service, Erf by M-PESA, has attracted 1.6 million users, according to the company. M-PESA added that its platform supports payments for utilities and services, including water bills in #Bahir_Dar, #Jimma, and #Adama, as well as school fee payments in several locations across the country. The company said the milestone reflects growing adoption of digital payment platforms in Ethiopia and noted that its operations are aligned with national digital finance and financial inclusion policies.

#RDC : Le réseau téléphonique @Vodacomcongo , opérant en RDC, fait preuve d’un profond manque de respect envers ses clients. Hier aux alentours de 23h40, j’ai effectué une transaction de 300$ via #M_Pesa afin de retirer la somme à un distributeur automatique de @Rawbank_sa . À ce jour, je n’ai reçu aucun message confirmant le succès de l’opération, ni le code de retrait nécessaire. Pourtant, Mon solde M-Pesa a bel et bien été débité. Ce montant devait servir à l’achat d’un billet d’avion pour un membre de ma famille, qui devait voyager aujourd’hui samedi. L’incident a donc causé un préjudice réel et immédiat. @Vodacomcongo , qui prendra en charge ce préjudice ? Face à cette négligence inacceptable, je me réserve le droit de saisir la justice par le biais de mes avocats-conseil afin d’obtenir réparation du dommage subi.
