Condolences to the family, what a great life lived #MagicAlbert
Legendary Gosford trainer Albert Stapleford has passed away. Stapleford, who would have been 96 in May, trained for more than 7 decades & prepared 501 winners. Fittingly, his last winner was at his home track (Dissenter) on February 2, 2023.
He had successfully brought the mare back from a 2600m victory, also at Gosford, a week earlier.
Stapleford decided not to renew his licence at the end of the 2022-23 racing season, & was feted by @gosford_races to mark his retirement & acknowledge his magnificent contribution to the industry.
Born in Phar Lap’s year (1930), Stapleford grew up at Millfield, near Cessnock.
After a brief stint as an apprentice jockey in Sydney, he returned home & started his training career at 17 years of age, winning with his first starter Renmark at Muswellbrook.
ProvincialRacingNSW extends its deepest sympathies to Albert’s family and friends on the passing of a remarkable man

Sky Racing reports that sire Magic Albert (Zeditave) has died at Kooringal Stud in NSW. Trained by Albert Stapleford, Magic Albert won the Gr 2 Peter Pan Stakes and the Gr 3 Spring Stakes in a seven-win, 13-start career. He retired to Yarraman Park in 2002 before relocating.

The first foal of the season! Pantops with her lovely filly by #MagicAlbert which she foaled at a very respectable 8.15am this morning. Owned by our great friend and client Joslyn Summerhayes and is the first of over 100 foals we are expecting this Spring. #kooringal
