What I, and many other women have learned from the allegations of the rape of Brittany Higgins and the subsequent shyte storm that followed it. -Women are judged more harshly than men. -Women are blamed for everything that happens to them. -Women still have no power in a system that ultimately is geared towards the patriarchy. -It’s apparently acceptable to abuse and slur women in the media, online and in public - but hurt-man syndrome and money call their abuse defamation. -The man, according to the misogynist brigade.. and even some women.. is always, always innocent - and a victim of circumstance. -The man can be seen to lie and that’s just a lapse of memory. The woman can be confused and emotional about her timeline - and she’s a liar intent on destroying a man’s life. -The man can obtain legal counsel and financial aid that isn’t questioned. The woman is hounded about a payout and pursued relentlessly - even overseas - with regard to her lifestyle. -Women are generally not supported in their place of work and very often can be persecuted by other women. -Men certainly don’t have to run the gauntlet with regard to their level of intoxication, what they were wearing, if they were still wearing it and were they “asking for it”. -The consequences of speaking up are often more difficult and emotional than staying silent and bearing it alone. -We are not safe. We are not accounted for. We are not protected. We are not supported.
