We couldn't agree more. And remember, if you're one of those brands that's stopped your #socialmedia marketing during #lockdown, you are missing out on A LOT of customers.

@andrewpascoe Many thanks. Note much appreciated. #MarketingThingsNotToDo has been an interesting experiment! I'm going to try to write the whole thing up on the weekend as a short meeting report with all the data to try to assess if it was a good one or not! :)
Light buyers are key to growth.
But light buyers don't give off a lot of data about their intent to purchase.
So to reach light buyers, and potential buyers, you need broad reach across media.
Just one of the 10 brilliant tips on media from @jdaykin. #MarketingThingsNotToDo
Talk 4: Where not to play
There are many new and sexy things in the world of media. However, many of these may not be the best places for brands to play. As @jdaykin explains.

Further to the talk I shared from @BinetLes as part of #MarketingThingsNotToDo series, this is a brilliant little thread that if you’re in advertising or marketing you will enjoy reading.
How do we define brand-building and activation? For us activation is when you evoke an immediate behavioural response, without necessarily affecting long-term memories or behaviour. Brand-building is when you create long term memories that influence behaviour over the long term.
@tomroach @2michaeltaylor @Grace_Kite @BinetLes @HenryInnis Thanks, Tom. This whole thread is just what I was hoping would happen around #MarketingThingsNotToDo (an attempt at making a Twitter event) and what I miss most about live meetings. It's made the whole thing worth it, so thanks! :)
Reach trumps targeting.

Talk 3: Not winning quickly
Everyone in marketing wants quick wins. However, it turns out that the pursuit of quick wins may, in fact, not result in winning at all. As @BinetLes explains.

@BELLAblogging I’m trying to run a meeting via Twitter this week! (See below) :) It’s proving to be trickier than I was expecting. I’d love to know what you think? I think you will enjoy the talks from day 1 and 2.

@NutcrackerSM I’m guessing you are not big fans of How Brands Grow, Eat Your Greens, The IPA, Ehrenburg-Bass etc?
Your proposing doing the opposite of what about 200+ studies show to be most effective! One of the studies below. However, thanks for the #MarketingThingsNotToDo example! :)

Our perceptions are skewed by all sorts of biases.
What Cisco was doing during 2000 didn’t change. But, people’s perceptions went from 'It's amazing in every way' in 1999, to 'It's terrible' by late 2000. A great example of #MarketingThingsNotToDo - see the talk below.

Talk 1: What to not think
There are lots of things that people in marketing are best off not thinking about. In this talk @RouserJP brilliantly highlights many of them. #MarketingThingsNotToDo

Retain, retain, retain.
New customers are, of course, always welcome. But repeat customers spend 33% more. It's simple #marketing maths.

“Loyal customers, they don’t just come back, they don’t simply recommend you, they insist that...” - Chip R. Bell

“The biggest problem in marketing is nobody is diagnosing the real problem before they implement the tactical solutions.” #MarketingThingsNotToDo

@RouserJP I agree that marketing frameworks rarely help you get to the real problem or insight needed to address it. I did find the helpful in communicating the strategy accross big companies though.
