Found Johnny Jones gravestone in the Southern Cemetery in #Dunedin #NZ. Jones was whaler & sealer from Sydney & managed Whaling stations on coastal Otago. One at #Karitane- He had the first farm at #Matanaka #Waikouaiti.

Today walked up to #Karitane cemetery on a raised plateau above the inlet. #Watkin the first missionary brought over by #JohnnyJones ( #Matanaka whaler & farm owner) by request to the Sydney Methodist's Society. Watkin's house here- mission to improve lives. #NZ #Maori #whaling

A cloudy overcast morning as I drove out to inspect the crib at #Karitane. The camera lay asleep in its carrier. When I arrived the sun began to break through over #Matanaka, the #Waikouaiti Bay & the inlet. Pleased I was. #NZ

@skylarkriddle Oh need to look at that. I used to give copies of Karitane Postcards away. I have copies. Tee hee. No one gets one now. Yes that poem; I went up there to #Matanaka last week & it's retained as a beautiful farm museum. Memories flooded back when my dear boys were little.
