What a tasting night it was ! I can tell @gordon_macphail know their wood. Only good drams tonight. My preference ? Highland Park, maybe, but the other ones were really close.

#maturationexpert @gordon_macphail @TweetTastings Once again, a great #tweettasting The new #connoisseurschoice range is an interesting expansion on a well loved classic. The stand out drams for me were the Craigellachie (for complexity) and the Clynelish (for being beautiful).

The @gordon_macphail #ConnoisseursChoice range has always been a great range to explore weird and wonderful whiskies which otherwise might not have seen the light of day as a single malt bottling. Caol Ila 2004. Palate : winery. Eucalyptus brings a nice freshness, then there’s a peaty smokiness coming through. Well, that’s an Islay dram, isn’t it ? Not very complex, but very enjoyable ! And look at this color !

Last dram of the night is a 2004 Caol Ila finished in Hermitage casks for 3 years.
Wow ! What am I smelling ? Am I in a stable or in a barn ? I must be in the countryside, for sure ! There's something animal about that dram.

Crikey O'Riley. The nose on this @gordon_macphail #ConnoisseursChoice #CaolIla is rather weird - steam puffer boat, ash, soot, charred Morello cherries, toasted walnuts & chestnuts, warm wood shavings, pickled herring and some smoked figs. Oft! #MaturationExpert
Adding some water in this Clynelish brings some charred notes in the palate. Quite nice !
